How Much Do LPNs Get Paid?

Some people joke about how much Licensed Practical Nurses get paid. Often people refer to an LPN as "Lowest Paid Nurse" since out of all of the different kinds of nurses that there are, LPN's do in fact tend to make the least amount of money.

A hospital is constantly busy and always on the go. They are full of all different kinds of health care providers such as pediatricians, registered nurses, surgeons, etc. But one common career that one may have is as a LPN. As an LPN, you'll be responsible for caring for ill, injured, or disabled persons in nursing homes, private homes, hospitals, and clinics. You will be in charge of taking fine care to the next level as you're working with some very fragile people, and are often under the close supervision of a registered nurse. An LPN is sort of like an entry level job in the nursing field. You get paid the least, but you're still taking care of people who are in need.

According to PayScale, if you have less than 1 year of experience as an LPN, you should expect to be paid anywhere from $28,000 to $39,000 depending on the location you're in. For example - if you're hired in Oklahoma you'll be on the lower end, but if you're hired in New York City, you'll be compensated more. But as with every career - the more experience you have - the more you'll earn.

With around 10 years of experience, you could earn as much as $49,000. But if you continue your education and become one step higher in the chain as a RN, you could earn as much as $70,000 annually.
